- It took a couple of days for the media to really pick up on the Azania story. At first people didn't really seem to care - writing it off as 10 year old angry and rash comments. But... it picked up steam and made national news just like a lot of other candidates comments.
He is totally getting burned now for not reneging on his comments... he's only apologising if he insulted anyone. I dunno... the cbc reported:"
The Jewish organization B'nai Brith would not go so far as to call the comments anti-Semitic. However, it did say the remarks were unfortunate and inconsistent with a multicultural Canada.
I think it'll "even the playing field"... people will rationally question (hopefully) all the candidates qualities.... not just view Azania as gods gift to disgruntled voters.
If you have time to burn... check out Cross Country Check-up where Rex Murphy lets people grill Edm-Strathcona's 3 major candidates.(Complete with cameo appearances by the Green Party and Canadian Action Party !!!)

- I wonder if that last dig at Rodimus there will preclude my hopes of being Prime Minister. Damn, my "PM for PM" campaign dies before it even has a chance to take off!

- Here's the original essay. Notley sheds some interesting (but, in the grand scheme of things, trivial) light on the matter. The essay was dug up by Colby Cosh, occasional contributor to the National Post, and a Gateway contemporary of both Notley and Azania. Of course, while the latter two represented the more left-wing view of the paper, Colby Cosh repreesents the right. It's nice to know the history of the U of A student newspaper plays so well into national politics.
As for James Rajotte. No, Tom, this will not be swinging my vote towards him. The fact that in four years as an MP I have never once heard the man say a single word does not bode well for his party getting my $1.75 . Actually, to this point, I don't know who I'm voting for. It's really become a matter of "gee, who pisses me off the least?" So far, all I know is that JR does not foot that bill.
Oh and, remember Wesley?
Oh yeah, and congrats to Percy, Mary, and Thomas. (Does anyone else think it's funny that Tom, the English major, does not use a single period in his entire post?) In a few hours, you, too, will feel the joy of sitting through hours of speechs and name-calling (and not even in an election context). With luck, you will also be uninspired by talk of "Visionary and Tough-minded reinvestment in education" from Rod "Ralph Klein is okay because he's committed to lifelong learning and oh yeah I'm a douchebag" Fraser.
