I was just voicing what I thought...
make fun of me will ya? there's trouble coming your way now...
hmm... if only they hadn't already put ricin in something... now I'll have to come up with something original, and most likely a lot less deadly too... (just so no alarms are raised) ;)

- fine, fine... apologies all around...
I meant "old boys' club" so now that's all straightened out.
semantics, semantics
hate to say it, but i feel like the board's being invaded by advertisers... I mean, not that the albums/bands etc. that are being advertised are necessarily "mainstream" but it sure does seem like they're being advertised on the board, not "Hey guys, guess what's being released!" kind-of stuff from one of us... so yeah... I know it's all more than likely just y'all with the shaw internet connections finding info online copying and posting... but it feels like those pseudo conversation/advertisements the Corporation warned people about. hmm... is my paranoia showing again? damn!
oh, and the beauty of councillors with lap tops is that they can have conversations on the web boards while the council meetings are going on. I thought that was hilarious, checking the web board today and reading the final conversations... quite interesting... "democracy" outside and inside the chamber walls... and oh did they go on about "democracy" and whether or not this was a democratic process, whether or not they represented democracy... I felt like rolling my eyes... constituents and representation... blah blah blah. If you can admit that 20 of your friends are the only people who voted for you, then you're obviously not democratically representing the rest of your faculty... but whatever. It's not my place to judge. I'm just going to e-mail my councillor and tell her how disappointed I am that she hasn't shown up for the past three weeks. I think that's enough to kick her out too... yay, another year of no representation.

- Or is it "old boys' club"?
Wouldn't "boy's old club" be like the No Homers Club to Homer Simpson? It was his club, now he's no longer a member.
For the person who was asking if I had seen The Office (it may have been Andy or Tony (or both?)), I finally caught the first couple of eps (sweet, sweet bit torrent.) Pretty good, I love the end of the second episode (where David's head has been photoshopped onto a woman in a threesome). "Does anyone have the time?" Classic. As for translating it to American audiences, it will almost surely flop, much as Arrested Development has. It's just not a typical sitcom, and if you don't do that, and don't have a gimmick or some wacky hijinks, it rarely gets the ratings to survive.
On a related note, the actor playing Tim will be starring in the upcoming Hitchhiker's movie, as our favorite last human alive (... kinda), Arthur Dent. For the curious, an extremely early trailer.

so... to sum it up in a sentence: the evening was filled with political wrangling and semantics. But... ECOS has survived, and some of my faith in council has also been restored. but it is still an evening I would not recommend to anyone. it's really an old boy's club

Simpsons ties knot with gay marriage
David Wood
Wednesday July 28, 2004
The feverish public debate in the US over gay marriages is to be played out in a forthcoming episode of The Simpsons, it emerged today.
The show's producers have revealed that the cartoon classic will feature an episode in which gay marriage is legalised in Springfield.
Hints about the plot line were dropped by show producer Matt Groening at a San Diego comic convention, where he revealed that Homer Simpson becomes a minister by registering online.
Producer Al Jean added: "We have a show where, to raise money, Springfield legalises gay marriage. Homer becomes a minister by going on the internet and filling out a form. A long time character comes out of the closet, but I'm not saying who."
Mr Groening even joked that it would be Homer Simpson who comes out in the episode.
Simpsons fans have already begun speculating about who the most likely character to come out would be.
One early favourite is billionaire Monty Burns' ever-devoted sidekick Waylon Smithers, who has been revealed in previous episodes to have a Mr Burns screensaver and dreams of a naked Mr Burns jumping out of a birthday cake.
Other candidates include Homer's cohorts at the nuclear plant, Carl and Lenny, as well as Moe the bartender, the Reverend Lovejoy, Principal Skinner and Comic Book Guy.
The gay marriage-themed episode is scheduled to air in January.
The show's producers also outlined other upcoming plotlines including a row among Springfield residents over Mayor Quimby that results in a campaign to kick him out of office, and a satirical take on the California recall election in which Arnold Schwarzenegger defeated then governor Gray Davis.
Celebrities expected to lend their voices to the show's next season include actress Kim Cattrall, best known for playing Samantha in Sex and the City; actor James Caan; and rapper 50 Cent.
Groening also said plans were still under way for a Simpsons animated movie, but said that work on a big screen version of the hit cartoon won't begin until the TV series bows out, which could be some time.
Now heading for its sixteenth season, The Simpsons still pulls in massive ratings in the US and is a big hit on UK television, giving UK channels such as Sky One and BBC2 bumper audiences. This autumn Channel 4 will begin airing the show, for which it reportedly paid $1m an episode, on Friday nights at 9pm.
