Know what's fun? Replacing and blindly pointing a satelite dish at some arbitrary position while on top of a polished aluminum roof at high noon. Fun times! As for email addresses, I'm quite fond of my "telusvelocity.net" account, can't get it anywhere and only about 1000 people have it. But it doesn't really compare to my decade old Rocketmail.com account...

Not too many positive things about oneandone here:

What does Taylor think? From what I read most people have problems with support... and some down time.

Righto, Ed. I'll take a look at that. I'm curious what Taylor thinks of 1&1; how it's working for him. But, like I said, I'll get to that stuff later.

Oh yeah, for Ngz (and, really, anyone else who wants to kill time), there's WEBoggle. Now we can waste precious time without having to dig up Eric's keychain! Woo hoo!

Apparently, contrary to my previous understanding, there is a Canadian in the kayak slalom. He's qualified for the semis tomorrow. He finished 16th out of 20 kayakers, but he is ranked 3rd in the world, so an outside chance at a medal (we seem to have a lot of those people.) If anyone's seen this, it looks like a brutal event. They have to kayak through rapids, but at least six of the slalom gates must be entered against the current (marked in red). It's scored based on time (each second spent counts as a point) with points added for touching the gate (2) and missing a gate (50). Naturally, lowest score wins.

As for the canoe slalom, it's not what you would first think. The only difference between canoe and kayak is the canoe uses a single bladed paddle, whereas kayak is double bladed. It isn't a canoe that we would normally picture.

"I hear a company called Bluehost is pretty good too. No good feedback on it though."

That doesnt make sense... maybe this does:

I hear a company called Bluehost is pretty cheap, although I've not heard any feedback on how good they are.

it's not actually a ualberta.net e-mail account, it merely forwards your e-mails to whatever account you choose. That way, you can give everyone your mynamehere@ualberta.net address for eternity, and change your actual e-mail account as often as you'd like. I don't think you can actually check your e-mail at ualberta.net though. It's like pretending to have your mail box at place x while really everything gets sent to place z instead.

Yeah, I've suspected as much for a while. As of this point I'm considering three options:

    1. Transferring the files to someone else, who has a ualberta account

    2. Grabbing a cheap computer, slapping Apache on it, and running it from home

    3. Coughing up for a hosting service like 1&1

The first one is, obviously, the easiest and least permanent of them all. The other two require me to write my own code for the board (which I've *almost* finished.) The second one is cheap, but I need a computer (I have one at home but it's currently in use, and I don't know when I'll get another one.) The third one seems like the best option, and I think I'd go with the linux hosting business package, but I'd like to finish writing my board before I start paying up to $15.00/month.

I'll keep you folks posted on this (get it? posted? so funny). I'll have a lot more free time after tomorrow (unemployment really frees up your schedule), so I think I can get something going next week.
