anyway, I got sidetracked. The reason I came on here is to tell you the great injustice I've been committed:

I've been informed that starting this week I must pay $200 rent a week to live at home. HOLY FUCK... where do they get these ridiculous rates from!?? That's crazy, eh?

I know what you're trying to say, but this was my whole problem (that I decided not to write about) with Eric's argument to begin with. Rather than saying we're trying to be all white, just say "neutral", because I for one do NOT want to be white; I personally cannot stand a good number of the connotations that go along with that label. I just fuckin want to be an individual. I consider myself first and foremost to be a product of my community, Edmonton, and secondly as a world citizen.

Yeah, I can see where you're coming from. Maybe comments like that are too much of a reflex for me.

I also had a feeling issues like this would be brought up when I asked my question about the whole affair. It is just one of any number of frustrating things that come up when we discuss these 'race' issues. The starting point of this whole debate for me was frustration. We're supposed to be in this 'tolerant' and 'diverse' environment, but I ended up with the feeling that buying into that environment somehow made me naive or ignorant about the issues around the Grewal/Dosanjh issue (hence, my question.)

Of course, all of this is our society trying to figure out how to shake off the preconceptions and prejudices we have about different groups. In struggling to get away from negativity about different people, we end up with this reverse racism that eric is talking about, where we force positive preconceptions on people. Of course, the only way to get this pendulum to settle down is to have discussions like this; discussions that challenge our preconceptions and force us to think about and reconsider these notions we have.

In a way, phrased in a horrible sort of way, we want to all end up being 'white' (by which, of course, I mean the unclassified, neutral status that eric described earlier... hmm, perhaps beige is a more apt description...)

I have a bad feeling that that quote, out of context, may come back to haunt me.

I know you're trying to be ironic, Paras. But it's true, and it's frustrating as hell.

Anti Gay Phone Company (from Eugene Mirman):

Starting in late December I began to get phone calls from what I thought was a phone company (United American Technologies) trying to get me to switch from my phone company to a Christian one that didn’t support gay marriage and pornography. It was so weird and creepy that I decided to record them. There are three calls. It turns out that they are from a non-profit that works with United American Technologies and calls people on their behalf. UAT then donates money to them. I think this non-profit stopped making these calls, but UAT still has many other organizations making the calls for them I believe. Though they claimed to donate 10% of their profits to ministries I think the money actually went into an Oklahoma Republican political campaign, but some of it may go to Churches and ministries, I’m not sure. The whole thing is confusing and spooky. But enjoy the calls.

This one's fuckin cool, Al:

I could see why people would collect these for purely aesthetic reasons. It's like collecting giant medieval broadswords. They're for show as opposed to functionality. I guess there's a certain beauty intrinsic to objects of destruction.
