Oh, and while I'm here, I'd like to point out that the problem with giving crazy people* an inch, is that they inevitably take a mile. Jack Thompson, the crazy* attorney, seems to believe that the Sims 2 contains offensive sexual content. (Never mind that EA is, in terms of content anyway, far more reputable than Rockstar (the GTA people)).

* - I don't normally write people off for being crazy, but for this nut, I happily make an exception. I mean, he ran against Janet Reno (Clinton-era Attorney General) for State Attorney in Florida on a campaign that accused her of being a closet lesbian suffering from mental side effects of Alzheimer's medication and being blackmailed by the Mafia. And that's just from Wikipedia.

His website is even better. Some of the gems:

  • "A recent Gallup Poll found that any American teen who has played this one game [GTA: Vice City] is twice as likely to be engaged in an act of violence than those who have not played this one game."

  • "In April 1999, eight days before Columbine, Jack Thompson appeared on national television to identify the role that shooter video games, specifically Doom, would play in future school shootings."

  • "You can write Jack Thompson, 1172 South Dixie Hwy., Suite 111, Coral Gables, FL 33146. May God bless you in the meantime. If you have kids, have them start shooting hoops instead of humans."

So, he's a great predicter of death by video game. I'm really curious what sort of depravity he thinks will be caused by the Barbie doll nudity of The Sims.

Morning Paras! Yay company.

What do you think would happen if you plugged a N. American=>Europe converter into a Europe=>N. American converter into an mp3 player? Would it be really boring and just work or would the world explode? I'm hoping for #2

Guess it's a good thing I let you win paper-rocks-scissors that last morning then.

Wow. You know what's sweeter than waking up at 5:00 for no good reason? Discovering that you came within $35 of maxing out your credit card in Europe. It's nice to know that if exchange rates were different, I really would have been in trouble.

Gee, I didn't think not having your voltage converter would actually keep you up at night.

okay, so I'm not in the backcountry. I'm going there on Monday. woo hoo! But, first I get the weekend off... pretty nice if you ask me.

Welcome home Jess, Pam and Paras, I hope you can adjust to Edmonton once again!

And, Pete, Eric and all of you related to this: I'd just like to say that every time you post something about Arcade Fire, I get pouty. It figures that they're coming after I've already left for Europe. Oh well, I'm sure they'll be back again some other time. I hope you go and enjoy the show immensely.

More sweet Arcade Fire News from arcadefire.net:

"First off, if you check the dates in the left hand sidebar and Tour Dates section, you will see that i have added the dates for Edmonton, Calgary, & Vancouver. The venue in Vancouver is still TBA, so check back soon for an update.

Opening all of this falls headlining shows (ie: non-Festival shows) will be Wolf Parade and The Belle Orchestre. The latter which features both Richard & Sarah from The Arcade Fire. That is quite the triple bill if you ask me!"

The date for Edmonton is October 4th.

Also, my sources at Ticketmaster tell me that the show with QOTSA, NIN and DFA1979 is confirmed for all three bands.

I dunno man but I'm goin in. I'll send up a bottled message from 10,000 leagues under the sea.

I think PerpetualNight is the revival of phoenix-torrents. I recognise some of the administrative members names. Phoenix-torrents was a torrent board that required membership.
