what's really cool about all of this is that there actually is NOTHING in my device manager. I know how to install the printer (because that too wasn't working) but the rest of this stuff.... no idea. so, I'm going to call Staples... stupid bastards... and stupid brother for getting the compy infected with a virus that needed stupid Staples to repair... grr. not that it'll be fixed before I leave by any means... but at least it'll get done. knowing my bro and dad, it'll still be lacking improvements in November if I don't act on this myself.

sounds like the guys who "fixed" your computer probably took some parts out and/or pluged some of theirs in and failed to reset everything properly when they gave it back to you. if you go to your device manager there might be some devices with question marks next to them and if they're the things you're having problems with remove them and do a hardware search. (if they're not, that's another issue...)

Alison, that sounds like a lot is screwed up with your computer. The easy route would be to wipe it and start over. The other easy route would be to complain to the people you bought it from.

And, for the record (not because I have a problem being wrong (I'm wrong often (like when I mistakenly disregarded Dana's Budweiser answer)), but because English trivia guy annoyed me with this), since the North Stars moved to Dallas, the Stars have only won the Cup 1 (one) time. At least, so claims the omniscient entity of the universe.

and... does anyone know any magical trick that will make my computer recognize the things I've plugged into it? I've added my usb key and my camera in separate attempts to look at pictures... and nothing... no recognition... NOTHING
