HOLYFUCK: yeah Eli was telling me about that show when i saw him at MegaTunes - mostly because that was the night he was originally going to slot me in as a guest DJ at SugarBowl, but he figured i wouldn't want to miss this show. the only thing i'm familar with theirs is track 2 from Stars & Suns and Idea of East Sessions - which frankly doesn't seem all that interesting until you realize it's all done with hardware live. then it's like, holy fuck yo

Red Medicine receives rave reviews!!!
Except that they're instrumental.
And nobody likes a band that goes "nutz".
And no french horn.
Red Medicine sucks.
Read it here.

HOLY FUCK
w/special guest BOLIDE (live PA)
...Contains no computers, midi, samplers, sequencers or drum machines. The beats and samples are provided by Casio SK's and other garage sale keyboards. The scratches on the CD are done with a 35 mm film synchronizer which is a piece of film editing equipment that to the best of my knowledge has never been used as a musical instrument. All textures, bleeps and pulsing drones are made with guitar effect pedals. It's a wonderful collection of raw, rich sounds. ...Going from scattered guitar pieces to noises and crashes as melody lines with weird beats that sounds like your standing 2 feet away from a construction site on peyote. ...A must for those who like to be captivated, intrigued and blown the fuck away."
yeah, believe the hype. From appearances at Coachella, Bumbershoot, Pop Montreal, SXSW, NXNW...to tours with Beans, among others...to the Victory ministage.

Check out this fuckin rad video of Whitey Houston here. The improvised bits after Lyle breaks a string are particularly sweet.

uh, thanks guys. honestly, I wasn´t that scared, I just wanted to know something in English, so all the fear mongering that evening news is wouldn´t terrify me despite the language divide. it´s difficult being entirely solo here. (seeing as I was too late to get into a real hostel) and spanish television just isn´t cutting it for a comfort... there are only so many reruns of Threes Company (with spanish overdub, of course) that one can watch, and the other alternative seems to be bullfighting. So, without actually stepping foot in a bullring, I have officially watched a fight. woo hoo, don´t need to repeat that.
anywho, I´m now in Barcelona, awaiting the hour to return to the train station and head off to Milan... olive picking here I come! Through some convoluted route to slightly-near-Rome, I hope to magically appear on a farm in the next couple of days. and from there, who knows what´ll happen, but at least it won´t involve bullfights on tv and spanish overdub of american tv reruns...
