Thanks. For the curious, the exam went well. Surprisingly, actually. The 45 minutes preceding the exam, not so much. Oh, well.

Well I'm really hoping that approach goes over better in politics than in med school, but from what I hear, that may not be the case.

Good luck on your test tomorrow.

In a speech, President Bush cautioned the people of South America against forces that want to "roll back the democratic progress of the past two decades by playing to fear, pitting neighbor against neighbor and blaming others for their own failures to provide for the people."

It's an art form, really. Too often, people are caught up in "reality." Thus, when you deviate from reality somewhat, observers will point out how you have erred. The traditional approach to dealing with this was to work meticulously to be in line with the truth, minimizing the criticism that comes your way.

President Bush (and, similarly, his compatriots) have rejected this path. They've gone the other way: the more blatantly you ignore reality, the less likely people will call you on it.

Would that I could learn from this. I just can't bullshit this well. Perhaps all I need is more practice...

I realize we only care about short-track speedskating (the roller-derby of the winter Olympics) every four years, but, at a meet in Italy, Canada took 19 out of 24 medals. There were two events with all-Canadian finals, and a record set today:

"With five Canadians in the final our goal was for one of us to get the world record," said [Mathieu] Giroux, 19. "So initially we were just supposed to have a normal race and whoever finished first would have the record. But with 12 laps to go the other four slowed down and I just went for it. The crowd knew I was on track for the record and they rocked the place. It really helped me get that mark."

Sorry for the abscence, working on something right now. I can't really think of something to do... I guess we could go to a bar or something. But I think it would be too short notice for the most of us.
