bah, I hate riots.
The unrest was first sparked by the deaths in the run-down Paris suburb of Clichy-sous-Bois of two youths, who were accidentally electrocuted at an electricity sub-station. (apparently because they were running away from police after a post-soccer game mob...)
Police say the rioting that erupted two weeks ago is now less intense and 463 vehicles were set ablaze overnight - one-third of the peak total
From the BBC
I mean, really, couldn't they have waited until after I'd returned home? How am I supposed to fly home via Paris if I'm not supposed to ride the train through the riot areas? sheesh. Actually, I think it's an incredibly shitty story if you ask me, and something that's obviously been brewing for a long while... but damned if it couldn't have waited another month... just for me? probably too much to ask, eh?
and, fun from the Canadian government website:
French authorities have stepped up security as part of a coordinated public security plan, "Vigipirate Renforcé," which includes increased police presence on public transport and in public places, particularly airports, embassies, schools, government installations, and train and metro stations. The law now allows police to search vehicles without warrants. Verification of identification and travel documents at airports has been reinforced, even for domestic flights.
It will be nice to return to boring old Canada, please don't change!

GOTO PITCHFORK and check out the SINGLES REVIEW and download the 3 1/2 stars rated 31Knots track.
31Knots: "Chain Reaction"
genre: indie rock
Addicts forget their friends in pursuit of horse; prog-dicts forget their listeners in pursuit of the primordial chord change that triggered the Big Bang. If 31Knots have successfully fused indie-punk and prog into something listenable where the Mars Volta have so spectacularly failed, it's because they know where their sympathies lie: lucid melodies and crisp dynamics. Their heads may be aswirl in chilly galaxies of theory, but their bodies are here on earth, in full possession of a physical imperative to rock. "Chain Reaction" is a spindly monster, prehensile guitar tentacles whipping it toward a crunchy, outsized vamp. Joe Haege sings like Jason Molina with a gun to his head, and his lyrics are just pretentious enough to suit the virtuosic paranoia of the music. In conclusion: Air guitar solo! Beedeley-beedeley-beedeley-beedeley-boodeley-boodeley-boodeley-boodeley... [Brian Howe]

Katamari creator ponders retirement from video games. It is as if millions of unorthodox game fans cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced.
(Hey, I'm not in Comp Sci anymore. Gotta bump that geek quotient somehow...)

I like how Paras reads "three way news". Mayhaps Ali was right.
