Oh, and Bob Cole line of the night, on Jason Smith's shot block off the throat which Brind'Amour picked up and put into the net, "That was a very weak clearing attempt."

D'you wanna put up and take down a picture of Dvo, now? That he tries so hard and is rewarded with so little (in stats and praise) is distressing to watch.
About the 1988 Oilers, whose Cup-winning game was shown on the network after tonight's game. They finished behind the hated Flames, yet their playoff record was an astonishing 16-2, outscoring their opponents 84-53, sweeping two series, and they were never so much as tied in a series (apart from 0-0 at the start, of course.)
No wonder the city never appreciated the wins in the 80s. It was more than an expectation, it was never in doubt for a second.

This one uses negative after-image and a black-and-white contrast to make the picture appear to be actually in colour. Very cool stuff.

A history of the @ sign.
Well, that's the underscore and the "@" taken care of. Perhaps I'll look at the "#" or "&" next...

Ha, and I remember people writing in to the Journal from other parts of the country during round 2 saying that the Oilers weren't a Canadian-enough team to be "Canada's Team". Discounting Conkannen (who weren't really foreseen to have played), from the regular lineup, only Dvorak, Hemsky, Samsonov, and Spacek aren't Canadian. (You can forgive me for ignoring diminished icetimes of Winchester, Ulanov and Tarnstrom.)

hey, speaking of canadian teams, check this out
"The 2006 National hockey League Finals may include only one Canadian NHL Team, the Edmonton Oilers, but Canada will be very well represented with 27 Canadian natives battling for the NHL’s ultimate prize, the Stanley Cup, as members of either Edmonton or Carolina."
now, if that doesn't inspire national pride, what does? Edmonton has 15 of them.
