ok, so i've been catching up on the message board because i have a lot of time to waste this morning, and i know that this is something that is fairly old, by message board terms, but it touched on my particular area of geekiness, and i feel compelled to comment...

I'm sorry, eric, they do. All words symbolize ideas; all words are semiotic representations of concepts that are arbitrarily assinged to said symbol, at one point or another in history. This is why there exists such a thing as the connotation - as the meaning behind the representation changes, the old meaning of a symbol is not entirely erased and gets carried along with the new meaning. Words have baggage, just like people. Every word, no matter how innocuous, is a symbol, and thus symbolizes, no matter how mundane it may seem.

Not to mention you used to idolize him for playing in one of your favourite (and most successful) local bands and also gave you some pretty nasty looks tonight and probably wants to kick your ass?
