you're right, Beck, despite your rampant dislike of Johnny Depp, I actually have to agree with you. I can't believe they're going to try and top the absolutely phenomenal performance of Gene Wilder. Admittedly, I will have to go see it because I just plain love Tim Burton, but I still don't know how it's going to be. Johnny Depp is not - via any of the roles I've seen him in - the kind of person I would ever have suggested was "right" for Willy Wonka... he's too creepy-crazy and just not eccentric in the right ways.
so... this weekend... I'm thinking The Motorcycle Diaries will be on my list of things to go see... if any of you want to join me... and Vera Drake, because I think it would be worth seeing, now that I know what it's about! other than that... no idea. Anyone got plans for the weekend? (no pressure, just curious) I think I'm going to spend a lot of time in pajamas... except that most of my family will also be home for those four days... so much for alone time.

Johnny Depp can never live up to the legacy of Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka!
Also Keri told me Wimbledon sucks... and I hated the first Resident Evil...
Godzilla sounds ok though, count me in for that

also this weekend, the totally MF DOOM FRIENDLY:
Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah - New 35mm print!
21:00, Sat Nov 13
Director: Kazuki Omori
Japan 1991, 102 min, 35mm
Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah is one of the most controversial of the Godzilla films for taking a thinly veiled stab at American imperialism and Japanese affluence. Futurians from the 23rd Century (almost all Caucasian) travel back in time to remove Godzilla from history. They say their intentions are to protect Japan from destruction but their true motive is to prevent Japan's rise to economic supremacy. Once the Futurians have the Japanese people believing they are safe from Godzilla, they unleash King Ghidorah and demand Japan's surrender. But Godzilla lives to do battle with the evil King Ghidorah and then the human-controlled Mecha-Ghidorah. This film offers a rare opportunity to see Godzilla be both the good guy and the bad guy in back-to-back scenes.
any takers?

i read an excellent article over the weekend in an old issue of the New York Times Magazine that concerned Creative Commons. it's an intriguing concept, but definately not one without debate.
