Eric, agreed... Adbusters was the way to find stuff out... and then the internet took over... and admittedly the Adbusters website is a lot more connected to the original intent of the sort-of dirty, grassroots expansion of thought and information... The magazine, however, is a lot more mainstream now, a lot more glossy, and easily digested by your average pseudo-"rebel" highschool student. I mean, entire magazines have been dedicated to such controversial topics as, um, how terrible America is... not that we couldn't have read similar stuff in MacLean's. You're absolutely right how they've softened the image of activism, sold off their idea of consumer culture (to be honest, if I was going for the ultimate in kicking against the pricks running shoes, I'd go with the Mother Jones ones, or perhaps shoes hanging out in a dumpster outside of the factory...), and tried to go for the lowest common denominator of conscientious objector.

Yes, they've had some great articles... all that info about Eli Lilly and his SSRIs was awesome, but they've gone into some rather bizarre spaces too... with their entire magazine dedicated to design (wtf?). I do still like the "jamming" they do, and you're right, they're the reason culture jamming has spread, and that's pretty awesome. But damn if it isn't just too much like giving you a taste of the great food to come, and then ditching out on you, to leave you hungry, wandering the streets and wanting more.

Hmm... Jere worked in an assay office in BC. Funny that those two tricks of the trade were submitted one after the other. Some might call it coincidence...

Oh, and Al, I'd like to call you out on that remotely knowledgeable shit. I don't think Percy is remotely knowledgeable about any part of the (real) world. (And I challenge him to prove me wrong! Tonight!) He seems to be hitting the Mythbusting nail square on the head, though. The last Mythbusters I saw involved testing whether a boom lift could catapult someone. In an extremely cooked example (they placed the boom on top of two shipping containers and pulled it back with another piece of heavy equipment), they only managed to launch Buster (the Mythbusting dummy) a few feet. (He did crash spectacularly into the ground though, meaning, while Percy's plans to catapult to school may be on the rocks, his plans to slam people at immense speed into concrete continue unhindered.)
