actually, I was thinking more about food that time, but the drug reference still stands.

Eric, thank you so much for the Pulp song! Now I'm going to have that semi-whiny british accent singing in my head all day. I dunno, I really didn't think they were the 'one hit wonder' that everyone else makes them out to be. I kinda like Pulp. One of their other songs... though I've forgotten which one...

and a related bit of news: Pulp is no longer... if you didn't already know: from Pulp Online: "To put you straight: Pulp aren't technically splitting up, but neither are they making any plans to return to the studio for the foreseeable future." and that was 2002... Since then Jarvis has released an album on his own... but no more pulp...

aha! It's Sorted for E's and Wizz - love it!

Alright.
In the middle of the nite,
it feels alright
but then tomorrow morning.
Oh then you come down.
Just keep on moving...

everybody asks your name,
they say we're all the same
and it's "nice one", "geezer",
but that's as far as the conversation went.

I lost my friends, I dance alone,
it's 6 o'clock I wanna go home.

But it's "no way", "not today", makes you wonder what it meant.
And this hollow feeling grows and grows and grows and grows,
and you want to phone your mother and say
"Mother, I can never come home again
'cos I seem to have left an important part of my brain
somewhere, somewhere in a field in Hampshire".

Alright.
In the middle of the night
it feels alright but then tomorrow morning.
Oh then you come down.
Oh then you come down.
What if you never come down?

from PULP:

You'll never live like common people,
you'll never do what common people do,
you'll never fail like common people,
you'll never watch your life slide out of view,
and dance and drink and screw,
because there's nothing else to do.

Sing along with the common people,
sing along and it might just get you through,
laugh along with the common people,
laugh along even though they're laughing at you,
and the stupid things that you do.
Because you think that poor is cool.

I want to live with common people,
I want to live with common people

Poor guy always finishes second.

Eric, I like how you use both "the hoi polloi" and just "hoi polloi", and sidestep the whole "hoi = the" issue. (I also like the idea of bringing "hoi polloi" to the hoi polloi.)

Word of the Day for Wednesday December 15, 2004

hoi polloi hoi-puh-LOI, noun:
The common people generally; the masses.

Let's dance with the hoi polloi, let's do whatever hoi polloi do.

yeah, see it's funny cause those fuck-wads are talkin' about the Mir instead. and that there's actually people on the Mir dying of starvation when really they're heads should have just exploded at the bottom of the sea. see it's funny

But damn if it isn't just too much like giving you a taste of the great food to come, and then ditching out on you, to leave you hungry, wandering the streets and wanting more.

Not letting go of that drug metaphor, huh?
