it's just hard to do field studies when the ground's frozen and everything's dormant.
And typically when you sign up to do grad school, you start soon after that. And that's what I'm not too sure I want to do... get back ino classes immediately...

Alison, who says you can't go to grad school and get a break? Granted, there is a bunch more work, but the program is far more flexible than the 'four 8-month shots and you're out' of an undergrad. (Of course, ultimately, it's up to you. And, in spite of all the hemming and hawing, you'll have to make a decision eventually.)
Here you go, Gaut: one Cigaro.
And now I go to explain why my last month of work has ended with a complicated end product that is slower that the simple, single-processor method. Sweet.

Jess - thanks! I know about those people too! I just don't know that I can go during the summer. It's one of the few times of the year when field jobs are abundant, and I'd rather have money to come home, instead of running out and being jobless for the fall. So I'm thinking I'll work the summer and then float around the world come the fall... but we'll see how things work out.
and then... there's the prospect that I might be going into grad school... *sigh* with a prof I had a crush on... am I stupid? I really don't think I'll be going the grad school route, but that'll depend on how my meeting with him goes. I don't have a crush on him any more, but this is going to be strange. and I'm still not sure I'm ready to leap back into school without actually having a true break from classes and the university. I want to run away!

I'm not sure if I'm still the unofficial PA filter, but if I am, today's is another classic two-for-one. I guess it makes sense if one of them draws and the other writes, but they work so well together, too. I don't think I could explain that more without sounding like I'm overanalyzing a webcomic...
I mean, above everything else, and for no reason other than to be an asshole, he's a guy obsessed with video games riding a fucking swing!!

Actually, eukaryotic cells also have ribosomes that float in the cytoplasm (as well as those attached to the er). The ones in the cytoplasm make proteins that stay inside the cell.
At least, that's what my notes read. I don't even remember writing that one down. But thank you very much, both of you.
Alison - I just happen to know these people who are planning on getting away for a few weeks to Europe. I'm sure you'd be welcome.

Beck, I've made a unilateral decision that 1000px is too wide. The ribosome picture is a link now, and my horizontal scrollbar is gone.

let's see...
granted that today is valentines' day, but I don't particularly care
... aka nothing changes in my life ... (and that's not at all a bitter statement, honest)
why on earth do I feel like packing up and leaving town?
is everyone else's expectation of V-day bringing me down?
I literally have no idea why I want to leave, but it sure is hard to not think about it.
just to get out on the road and drive, and end up at somewhere that isn't my parents' house
actually, the feeling this morning was more of "i want to quit... everything"
and it came from nowhere
guess it's a good thing reading week's just around the corner... and I have stupid fucking meetings to go to
oh well, happy V-Day everybody! I hope you enjoy it, in whatever way you desire to make it fun.
I'm going to the Vagina Monologues tonight. should be fun.

I think a more pertinent (and first-year-biology-course-level) difference would be that prokaryotic ribosomes roam free in the cell, whereas eukaryotic ribosomes are bound to the endoplasmic reticulum.
Hmm... I'm amazed that I still remember that. Especially so early in the morning.
