I say you should give them a good knife. No one ever gives out the good knives anymore. A good knife goes a long way whether it be faster cooking, better cutting, and good quality food. A good knife is a good foundation for excellent food or a gourmet cuisine.

Quick:
Does anyone have any ideas for a gift to give friends who are getting married? They aren't registered anywhere, and all I can get out of the bride is ice cube trays and a cheese grater. I'm thinking I'll end up getting them some wine, but is there anything else you all can think of?
Any ideas would be appreciated!

okay, so... it's the middle of August, and it's only getting up to the mid teens during the day. Where is summer? Maybe there's a lesson for me here: don't live in Hinton if you want true summer... though I haven't had to bother with shorts this year yet... just roll up your pants a bit and you're set. Makes field work more bearable, but still, I'd like some warm weather... please?

I got a parking ticket delivering water to the Pride Center of Edmonton. Yes, it's exactly what you think it is. Very rainbowy inside.
No e-mail from my prof yet on whether I'll get an extension. The UofA site seems to be working properly now though it wasn't this morning... but I won't have time to finish the essay until tomorrow. Man, why does this shit always happen to me? I mean, yeah... of course you shouldn't leave things till the last minute, but when you're doing 15-hour days on a regular basis, and work 8 hour days on the weekend, it doesn't really leave much choice.
I think I should be okay though... because seriously; how can they fail me when it's that very institution I'm paying that fucked up and prevented me from completing it on time.
My boss at work today said to me "just say it with me now: that's, total, bull, shit."
He's right.

no, the difference is that the pornographic material from GTA was data that was actually physically present on the disc that they sold. The Sims2 on the other hand does not contain the pornographic information on the software they are retailing; it's only through a downloadable mod that this is available. That's why GTA got bumped in rating and Sims2 did not.

Chatterbox has an interview with Jack "The Sims 2 is porn!" Thompson this week. It was intended to be half an hour, but runs to an hour twenty minutes. I can put up the clip in particular later (it'll require some cutting of the mp3), but his argument that EA is part of a conspiracy (he actually says 'legal conspiracy') with pornographers to get porn into the hands of children goes as follows.
- The Sims 2 is rated T for Teen
- Kids can buy games of that rating
- EA doesn't crack down on people modding The Sims 2
- Some of the mods include making the characters' sexual organs more anatomically defined (I'm taking his word on this one)
- Therefore, EA is giving tacit approval for pornographers to get porn into the hands of children
Hence, EA is evil, and worse than the makers of Grand Theft Auto.

"To Ron's credit, it was one helluva way to go out," human resources manager Gail Everts said. "Ron clearly spent a lot of time on that presentation. If the subject matter weren't so heavy, we'd probably use it to train his replacement."
Beautiful.
