Anyway, um... I can almost taste the end of my job... probably Saturday... oh, freedom! haha! I'm so tired, and we didn't work today... (roads too muddy to drive). here's hoping the rest will go quickly... and that I can come home and start planning my vacation, and see people, and sleep in a big bed, and not have really noisy neighbours, and sleep in... ah, to sleep in, that would be divine!

Another related article from Newswire brings a different angle to the issue of transfer payments. While briefly discussing the issue of the unbalanced transfer payments of Ontario, the article suggests concerns over the transfer payments system itself, citing difficulties in gauging the successes of government investments with the transfer payment funds. It also gives a link to the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, which may prove interesting. So, perhaps the argument is, in addition to some sort of a kick back, a revamp of the transfer payment regime.

In all seriousness, that Ontario article seems pretty sketchy, based on my limited understanding of federal transfer payments. If I understand correctly, transfers are supposed to help balance things out between 'have' and 'have-not' provinces. So, logically, how could transfers create a have-not province? At best, wouldn't it turn a 'have' province into a 'break-even' province? Am I missing something? Percy?

Even stranger to me is the concept of provinces which contribute more than they get back from the feds asking for the difference back. Why not just throw out the whole system of transfers, then?

I don't see what's so great about the "swelling coffers" of Alberta. It's just more money unused in a province that has roads in worse condition than Moncton's. If people have something to say I doubt a 25 year old ruckus over the NEP will keep anyone quiet about perceived unfairness.
