I don't think mash was referring to any notions of celebrity status but rather to the generally perceived shittiness of the city.

He's quite possibly one of the biggest celebrities here, the whole city loves him. You know he wouldn't get that kind of attention in somewhere like Columbus... then again, maybe it's the attention he's not liking.

Ok, I don't ordinarily do this (in fact, I don't think I ever have), but I'm-a soliciting.
Shinerama is a student-based fundraiser for cystic fibrosis. On Canada Day (next Saturday, for the forgetful), they'll be at various bars and clubs and parks throughout the day handing out, I'm told, lollipops and globracelets (?) for donations.
I'm signed up to be in Hawrelak Park from 2-6PM that day. I would not mind some company with this, if anyone's interested in volunteering. It's not a long time, and not a lot of work. Email me if you're up for it.
You may now return to your regularly scheduled banter.

He wouldn't make more money if he were traded. He's still got four years left on his 6.25M/season contract. He'd get paid that here or anywhere else.

i'm not trying to give any creedence. i'm just saying that if there is a problem, why would we truly begrudge the guy?
i still hope it's totally false though.

(and/or he's got some serious problems with one of his fellow teammates...)
That one doesn't really wash with me either. When you get down to it, who on the team is less expendable than Pronger? This isn't a Joe Thornton situation where you've got a player who's underperforming and costs a boatload so you dump him. He's a leader, and a great player, not a dink-wallet or a whiny, spoiled brat.
I'm still not ready to say that this is any more than people like Al Strachan stirring the shit to see what floats.

i like this in response, though:
"We just got over a seven-game series in the Stanley Cup finals and there seems to be a lot of discussion about this and I'm not sure where it's coming from," added Lowe. "Let's put it this way. Why would we want to trade Chris Pronger?"
but, maybe there is some sort of family issue going on here... if the rumour's at all true. if that's the case, who can begrudge a guy who wants to make sure his family feels comfortable and happy? (and/or he's got some serious problems with one of his fellow teammates...) even if the oilers do need him...
