For the last month or two I've fallen in love with a doom/drone metal band that I only recently discovered. I consider them equals and in some respects more refined than bands like Sunn and Mare... which is saying a lot because I fuckin' love those bands. It took me a while to find them on the internet though, because I was spelling their name wrong. Who exactly am I talking about?

A 2-piece hailing from montreal, they distinguish themselves from other drone/doom acts by their use of lulling ambient soundscapes. It's just totally fucking optimistic and beautiful but in the most slow and dark way possible. I love it.

okay, truly, you're right, finding a gene, finding a maternal cause, finding whatever reason for something to possibly be the way it is isn't necessarily suggesting that they're going to find a 'cure' for something... i just find it interesting that people feel it necessary to seek things like that out in the first place. homosexuality is not cancer... so finding a cause for it seems far less important to me than, say finding a cause for i dunno Lou Gherig's Disease, or homicidal behaviour... or something of that nature. ... something that actually bears to be improved upon

i mean, besides which, homosexuality isn't exactly new. it's been around just as long as everything else, so why bring a study like this together in the first place? do they study the likelihood of boys turning out to be heterosexual, and possible genetic, familial or otherwise causes of that? (like those post cards you can find now of couples and the tagline "When did you chose to be straight?")

I dunno, maybe it is a step, recognizing that people aren't necessarily choosing to be LGBTQ, just that they are, and that there really isn't anything one can do about it, except (hopefully) accept them for who they are and not ostracize them (or build armies with them...) haha, oh to have been a spartan or an amazon...

Would finding genetic, perinatal and postnatal causes for shyness, leadership, creativity, logical-thinking, intelligence, left- or right-handedness, a wicked slapshot, preferring strawberry to raspberry, or any other such traits be the first step in a grand plan to "cure" these conditions?

There's a plotline in Regenesis (a Canadian show about the cutting edge of biotechnology and its ethical, political, terrorist, and other implications) in which a scientist discovers an allele of a gene that is linked to homosexuality. Apart from all the typical "if your baby were" or "if you were and had the choice" questions, there was a more interesting question asked. If you were gay and you didn't have the allele (or, to generalize, the genetic or perinatal confluence that was supposed to bring about homosexuality), what would that mean about you?

wait a minute, why are we trying to explain it anyway? is this another effort to 'cure' people of it?? it's a strange sort of research to conduct if you ask me... ulterior motives, anyone?
