Thanks for the info Tay! I was just wondering if bmp were always that freakin huge. I guess they are. The background was thrown together from sketching on the Wacom. I was trying to find a good background or reference pic but all those nature sites blocked me from stealing pics. So I threw one together in less then 5 minutes. I guess it shows. :p

Actually, I'm fairly certain PNGs are not licensed. And I just checked the wikipedia article. Blah blah, response to the termination of free licenses for JPEGs, shortcomings of GIFs (256 colour limitation), but yes, not-proprietary.
Actually, as far as I recall from my image processing days, the rule of thumb was JPEGs for photos, GIFs for logos. (And, apparently, PNGs for both.)

No, Al, PSDs are huge too. They contain all the layer information and stuff. Depending on the complexity of the image, a PSD can often be much larger than a bitmap.

Also, that picture you drew looks awesome... I can already see improvement from the Grand Arms pic. My only crit though is that the background doesn't match how nicely you rendered the character.
