So as many of you already know, I've been working to organise an outing to Canada Olympic Park for a day on the luge track, but after a couple of cancellations, we've still got room for a couple more adventurous types. Here's the details:

When: December 29, leaving town for Calgary @ 9:30-10am
Cost: $49 for luge action, maybe another $20 for food and fuel (Paras is covering the transportation)

So if you're into it and time permits, let me know within about a week so I can get things booked and ready to go.

Were not getting old, some of us are still planning to get a car which goes too fast and only has enough room for 2 people. Hmm... Sounds like a midlife crisis type car, maybe we are getting too old.

hmm... debate debate, go to the revolutionary speaker series or ... not? It's 11 dollars plus whatever parking is... so it's not too cheap, but I'd likely spend a bit at Chilli's anyway... I dunno...

Samantha Nutt (check the RSS website here) from War Child is most definitely a draw, but it takes a particular mindset to want to sit in a theatre for a few hours listening to a talk about war and its impact to people in war-torn countries. I don't know that i'm there today.

Actually, I'd just like to introduce you guys to Paul Martin's speechwriter's blog.

Now, I die a little inside when saying the phrase "I was reading this blog", and I know that a blog sponsored by a political party is about as real as that delightful plastic cheese spread (and valued just as highly), but this one is actually amusing. He (Scott Feschuk, the aforementioned speech writer) doesn't exactly take himself seriously. That certainly helps.

It also helps when his musings are misinterpreted and generate the kind of faux-outrage we'll see a lot of in the next two months:

I am reliably informed that Conservative MP Jason Kenney just held a news conference at which he said the following about my blog reference yesterday to Omni subscribers:

"(Feschuk) said that Omni subscribers were socially awkward people who believe in UFOs. Scott's a funny guy, and I'm sure he'll say it was just a joke, but I think it's a joke in bad humour. What's he saying? That people from ethnic minorities who are the television viewers of Omni are paranoid, are abnormal, are ungrounded in reality? What's he saying?... I think he has to explain himself, and so does the prime minister."

It wasn't a joke, Jason. I was being serious. Of course, I was referring to subscribers to Omni, the magazine for science buffs and those who believe they've visited Alpha Centuri, not viewers of Omni television. (The fact that I know of Omni mag and Jason doesn't may speak to the fact he had a more socially successfully youth than I did).

In the spirit of interstellar goodwill, I make this offer: if Jason apologizes, I'll send him a free subscription to Omni and a tin foil hat.

So, since there are several people on this board that are well read in, and care about Canadian politics, I thought I'd post this on here. Normally I wouldn't post this sort of thing, but I can think of a couple people around here that may have a genuine interest in this.

City TV trying to find an "average" student who would be willing to go on City TV's news show between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. for five Fridays between now and the federal election to share his or her opinion about how they think the election campaign in going. The student would be one of five people on a panel. If anyone is interested, please let me know asap. Email's probably the best way.
